Sisal carpets are becoming increasingly popular in home renovation thanks to their natural and Eco-friendly nature. Now, the question is, can you put sisal carpet outside? If so, how to keep it maintained from harsh weather conditions? In this blog, we’ll give you a detailed guide to whether these carpets are suitable for outdoor use. We will discuss the facts, dos, and don’ts associated with using sisal carpets in outdoor settings. So, read on.

    Interesting Facts about Sisal Carpets

    ●       Durability

There is no denying that sisal carpets are highly durable. And this is what makes these carpets ideal for high-traffic areas. The natural fibers of sisal are robust and can withstand heavy use over extended periods.

    ●       Fading

Sisal carpet cannot be a good choice for outdoor use as it is prone to fading when exposed to direct sunlight for extended periods. This will cause the carpet’s color to lose its original vibrancy over time.

    ●       Water Absorption

Another reason why sisal is not a good outdoor choice is because of its susceptibility to water damage. Sisal fibers have the ability to absorb moisture and can become swell. Therefore, placing it in an area that receives excessive moisture or rain is generally not recommended.

    ●       Maintenance

Sisal carpets require minimal cleaning. However, they may require frequent cleaning when place outdoor due to exposure to dust, dirt, and other outdoor elements.

    ●       Mold and Mildew

Sisal carpets, when exposed to damp conditions, can become a breeding ground for mold and mildew. Areas with constant moisture and high humidity are not suitable for these carpets.

So, except for durability, all factors are indicating that sisal carpets are only good for indoor use. But, if you wish to place these carpets outdoors, here’s what you need to know:

Dos for Using Sisal Carpets Outdoors:

    ●       Covered Outdoor Spaces

Do you want to place your sisal carpet outdoors? It is advisable to place it under a covered area that is not exposed to direct sunlight or rain.

    ●       Proper Sealing

If you are placing sisal carpets outdoors, treat them first with a water-resistant sealant to minimize their water absorption characteristics. This gives good protection against moisture damage.

    ●       Periodic Rotation

To prevent your sisal carpet from fading, it is advisable to rotate it periodically for more balanced exposure to sunlight.

Don’ts for Using Sisal Carpets Outdoors:

    ●       Wet or Damp Environments

As sisal carpets are prone to moisture, do not place them under areas that receive higher levels of moisture and humidity.

    ●       Direct Exposure to Elements

Do not place these carpets in areas that are exposed to excessive sunlight, rain, or high humidity.

    ●       Heavy Soil Conditions

Do not place sisal carpets in heavy soil areas as the fibers can easily trap dirt and dust particles that become difficult to clean.

So, we’ve come up to the conclusion that sisal carpets offer numerous benefits for interior spaces. They are not suitable for outdoor use because of their vulnerability to fading, moisture, and mold growth. But, if you wish to place these carpets outdoors, keep in mind the above-listed factors to protect these carpets from severe damage.
